Welcome to the USTA Southwest Section The Southwest Section supports tennis enthusiasts throughout Arizona, New Mexico and El Paso County. Our mission is to promote and develop the growth of tennis in these areas and get everyone to experience the thrills of this great sport. We offer competitive league play and tournaments for adults and juniors alike, award thousands of dollars each year in scholarships and grants to members and member organizations, and support the game at every level in every way we possibly can. Here's a great story from the Flagstaff Arizona Daily Sun published on February 8, 2010 on USTA members George Jobin and Doris Reppen, both of whom are still out banging tennis balls and loving tennis at the grand old age of 90.
March 1 will be the second annual Tennis Night in America. Facilities across USTA Southwest will be hosting events tied to registering young players for teams and orienting players on the tennis offerings in their communities. Come see what it's all about.
Several of the top collegiate, co-ed club teams will descend upon Las Cruces, N.M. on Valentine's Day weekend for the Tennis on Campus Championships - USTA Southwest, held at the New Mexico State Tennis Center.
USTA Central Arizona recently hosted the District's first-ever QuickStart Tournament. The single-day event gave new competitors a taste of matchplay in a user-friendly setting using modified court sizes, balls, scoring formats. It was the first of a series of events being held in the Phoenix-area in 2010.
Nicolas Montoya (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Augustus Ge (Phoenix) represented USTA Southwest in grand style at the Copper Bowl, winning titles in the 16s and 14s, respectively. Other USTA Southwest players also posted strong results at the event, held Jan. 2-7 at more than a dozen sites in the Tucson area.

Attention USTA Southwest adult and senior tournament players! Final section rankings for the 2009 season are now listed on TennisLink. Congratulations to our tournament-ranked players for a fine season and a special congratulations to our No. 1 finishers for 2009.
The USTA announced players who will represent the United States at the 30th ITF Seniors World Team Championships hosted by Federacion Mexicana de Tenis and two USTA Southwest players - Andrew Stoner (Cave Creek, Ariz.) and Sherri Bronson (Scottsdale, Ariz.) were among those selected.
The Flagstaff Athletic Club was recently named a USTA Wheelchair Grant recipient, one of 23 national organizations to receive grant funding for local programming efforts and equipment. Read more about it HERE.
Feb. 19-20
'Tucson Racquet Club will also be hosting a unique charity event - 'Living the Dream' - to honor former University of Arizona men's head tennis coach Tom Hagedorn, who passed away in early 2009 from acute myelogenous leukemia. Hagedorn, a tremendous influence on tennis in the Tucson area, died at the young age of 43.
A dinner, World TeamTennis-style tournament and Casino Night will be held Feb. 19-20 at TRC with a goal of raising $50,000 through donations and auctions.
These donations will help support The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and their two current grants to the Arizona Cancer Center for research in the resistance to targeted cancer drugs. For more information, click HERE.
Congratulations to USTA Central Arizona for recently receiving a $28,000 Community Partnership Investment (CPI) Grant from USTA National to help strengthen and build tennis programming in the Phoenix area! These grants are designed to support organizations who build tennis communities through collaborative and lasting partnerships.
USTA CAZ was one of seven national recipients of the CPI grants. Total awards ranged from $10,000 to $40,000. Read more about the award HERE.
