Socorro Tennis Association of New Mexico remembers a special member who lost her battle with cancer
11/3/04 9:36 PM

The tournament will be in memory of a very special Socorro Tennis Association (STA) member lost to cancer this year, Gretchen Joyner. Because of Gretchen's deep love for animals, it will be a benefit tournament for APAS, specifically for neutering and spaying animals. The Gretchen Joyner Benefit Tournament will be a mixed doubles, round robin tournament held on November 13th at the Sedillo City Courts. A potluck will follow the tourney at the home of Paul and Gayle Rhodes in Lemitar. For more information and to participate in the benefit, contact host Bill Christy at 835-0438 fintech@sdc.org, Jose Guilberto at guilbert@ee.nmt.edu, or Gayle Rhodes at 835-7245 grhodes@sdc.org.

The Socorro Tennis Association is a community association. All of the tournaments and play sessions are open to any non-member wishing to participate in some tennis fun. Since a rotation schedule is compiled prior to tournament play, participants do need to pre-register for tournaments. To participate in a play session, however, just show up at the Sedillo City Tennis Courts during the following times - by 8:00 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings or before 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. On behalf of the Socorro Tennis Association, I would like to thank the Smiley DeCosta crew for their efforts in getting the courts ready for the Ernest Moore Open.

2004 STA President,
Gayle Rhodes
